In this tutorial, we implement Tree-KG, an advanced hierarchical knowledge graph system that goes beyond traditional retrieval-augmented generation by combining semantic embeddings with explicit graph structure. We show how we can organize knowledge in a tree-like hierarchy that mirrors how humans learn, from broad domains to fine-grained concepts, and then reason across this structure using controlled multi-hop exploration. By building the graph from scratch, enriching nodes with embeddings, and designing a reasoning agent that navigates ancestors, descendants, and related concepts, we demonstrate how we can achieve contextual navigation and explainable reasoning rather than flat, chunk-based retrieval. GWM is rolling out a new ‘super platform’ that will support everything from combustion power to hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, and both body-on-frame and unibody vehicles – and even a sports car. The Chinese automaker has previewed one of the vehicles that’ll use the new GWM One architecture, a large (around 5.3m-long) SUV for its premium Wey brand which Chinese media reports will launch this year. The architecture will underpin hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains, as well as traditional internal combustion power. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Here’s a use of AI that appears to do more good than harm. A pair of astronomers at the European Space Agency (ESA) developed a neural network that searches through space images for anomalies. The results were far beyond what human experts could have done. In two and a half days, it sifted through nearly 100 million image cutouts, discovering 1,400 anomalous objects. The creators of the AI model, David O’Ryan and Pablo Gómez, call it AnomalyMatch. The pair trained it on (and applied it to) the Hubble Legacy Archive, which houses tens of thousands of datasets from Hubble’s 35-year…

Anthropic has doubled the amount of VC funding it aims to raise, the FT reports, increasing the target from $10 billion to $20 billion. The round, expected to close soon, will give the company a valuation of $350 billion, sources told the FT. Anthropic, which makes the popular AI Claude and the equally popular Claude Code, decided to double its funding target due to booming investor interest. Backers in this round are expected to include Sequoia Capital (which also invests in its rival OpenAI), Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, and investment management firm Coatue, per the FT. Late last year, it…

Data science agents should inspect datasets, design workflows, run code, and return verifiable answers, not just autocomplete Pandas code. DSGym, introduced by researchers from Stanford University, Together AI, Duke University, and Harvard University, is a framework that evaluates and trains such agents across more than 1,000 data science challenges with expert curated ground truth and a consistent post training pipeline. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2601.16344 Why existing benchmarks fall short? The research team first probe existing benchmarks that claim to test data aware agents. When data files are hidden, models still retain high accuracy. On QRData the average drop is 40.5 percent, on DAEval…

Nissan rolled out the Ariya Solar Panel Concept for the International Day of Clean Energy on January 26. The Ariya concept has 3.8 square metres of polymer and glass-based solar panels covering its bonnet, roof, and rear windscreen. All up there are 480 cells capable of generating peak power of 700W, or up to 4kWh in a day. Nissan says that in ideal conditions, the solar panels can add up to 23km of range in one day. According to the automaker’s calculations, the Ariya Solar Panel Concept will gain an extra 10.2km of range per day in London, a city…

TikTok settled a high-profile lawsuit on Monday evening, which alleges that social media companies intentionally make their products addictive, causing harm to users. Snap settled the case last week, but Meta and YouTube — the other defendants — are now heading to trial, where jury selection begins on Tuesday. Centering around a 19-year-old plaintiff known by the initials K.G.M., this case is the first of many similar legal challenges against social platforms. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and YouTube head Neal Mohan are expected to testify, which could set a precedent for how dozens of other lawsuits could play out. By…

The French government is saying au revoir to Microsoft Teams and Zoom as it embraces a home-grown alternative. By next year, civil servants across all departments will have switched to French videoconference platform Visio, as EuroNews reports. As with Teams and Zoom, Visio has an AI-powered transcription tool. Visio runs on a French company’s cloud infrastructure as well. The platform has around 40,000 users and it’s been in testing for the last year. The government expects the switch to help reduce costs by as much as €1 million ($1.2 million) each year for every 100,000 users. The decision to ditch…

On a Monday night NBC News segment, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei expressed concern over “some of the things we’ve seen in the last few days,” referring to the violence of Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis. Amodei focused on the importance of preserving democracy at home, both on NBC and in a post on X that specifically called out “the horror we’re seeing in Minnesota.” On NBC, he said he’s a believer in arming democracies to defend against autocratic countries, and that “we need to defend our own democratic values at home.” He added that Anthropic has no contracts with Immigration and…
