With little fanfare, the Nissan Z — known as the Fairlady Z in its homeland — has been revealed at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon. Externally, the major components of the facelift are the new front bumper, alloy wheels, and the Unryu Green hero paint option. The new bumper dispenses with the current car’s confronting slab-like rectangular grille opening in favour a wider design broken up by a body colour bar. The bumper itself is more sculpted and more cleanly continues the creases established by the bonnet. It’s not only a more cohesive design, but it decreases front lift by…

The axe has officially fallen on the Toyota Fortuner, with the HiLux ute-based seven-seat off-road SUV not expected to return to the Japanese automaker’s lineup. But with the heavily updated ‘new-generation’ HiLux launching recently, the idea of a Fortuner borrowing its best bits from Toyota’s newest ute is something buyers would more than likely be keen to see. In fact, despite the Fortuner being discontinued in 2025, sales of the large off-road SUV were up 12 per cent year-on-year. Along with fresh-looking front and rear ends, the latest HiLux benefits from suspension updates, new safety technology, and an all-new interior…

The Holden Commodore was the best-selling car in Australia from 1998 to 2010. Having passed that honour on to Mazda and then eventually Toyota and now Ford, the once-iconic Australian auto brand never recovered. Going back to 2015, Australia’s best-selling car was the Toyota Corolla with 42,073 deliveries, representing 3.64 per cent of the total market of 1,155,408 vehicles. From there, the baton was passed to the Toyota HiLux, which became the annual leader for seven consecutive years (2016-2022). Then the Ford Ranger took over as the nation’s best-seller in 2023, and continued to hold the top spot in 2024 and 2025. That ‘winner list’ is short, but the underlying sales volumes are not. The…

In addition to the new EV2 electric SUV, Kia used the 2026 Brussels motor show to unveil GT variants for its existing EV3, EV4 and EV5 model lines. Like the EV6 GT and EV9 GT, the visual differences between the new GT iterations and their lesser siblings are minimal. While the EV6 GT and EV9 GT offer considerably more kilowatts and straight-line performance compared to other models in their lineups, the new EV3 GT and EV4 GT are more modest upgrades, while the EV5 GT offers similar performance to the existing AWD model sold in Australia. Chinese cars are rising rapidly from the bargain basement in Australia, and some are now even looking to challenge well-established models from European prestige brands. One of the hottest new upmarket challengers comes from the MG world with the IM6, a battery-electric mid-size electric SUV that ticks all the boxes from design and refinement to equipment and pricing, making it a genuine alternative to Audi’s latest e-tron model, the Q6 e-tron. It’s a new technology leader from a new brand, which in Australia is officially labelled as IM Presented by MG Motor, and the flagship electric vehicle (EV) is a…

Kia has whipped the covers off its smallest electric SUV yet, the EV2, at the 2026 Brussels motor show. Stylistically, the EV2 largely takes the SUV design template established by the EV3 and EV9, and shrinks it down to fit the burgeoning city EV segment in Europe. As previewed by last year’s Concept EV2, the production model dispenses with the serpentine tail-light graphics for a Hyundai Kona-like pod just above the rear bumper. The Australian new‑vehicle market reached a record 1,241,037 deliveries in 2025, but the headline number only tells a small part of the story. Across the last 11 years, total market growth has been modest – up 85,629 units or 7.4 per cent compared with 2015. The real change has happened inside the total, as demand has shifted away from traditional passenger cars and towards SUVs and, to a lesser extent, light commercial vehicles. In 2015, passenger cars were still the backbone of the market. They accounted for 515,683 deliveries, or 44.6 per cent of all new vehicles sold that year. SUVs, while already popular, sat behind them at 408,471 deliveries for a 35.4…

As the rest of the automotive industry has been phasing out eight-cylinder engines, China’s GWM has been doing the opposite. Now, it is considering utilising its unusual horizontally opposed eight-cylinder engine in its cars. GWM originally unveiled a 2.0-litre flat-eight engine at the 2024 Beijing motor show in 2024, and followed it up with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 the following year. But while the V8 was created to be used in its range of off-road vehicles – potentially the Tank 300,500, and 700 – the flat-eight…

A total of 380,350 cars, SUVs and light commercial vehicles were recalled in Australia in 2025, with customers forced to visit the service department to fix myriad mechanical and software faults. The 136 nationwide product safety recall notices issued last year ran the gamut from the tame (incorrect compliance labels in the Ford Mustang Mach-E) to the concerning (potential toxic gas leaks in Ford’s van lineup). According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts, Ford issued the greatest number of recall notices in 2025 (26 in total) and also recalled the highest number of…
