Toyota says it has already introduced “advanced protective measures” across its model range to help combat the scourge of vehicle thefts, but it has stopped short of detailing just what those measures are. “Toyota is committed to continuously improving vehicle security and has progressively introduced advanced protective measures across its range,” the company said in a release. “In 2025, Toyota took further steps to enhance security on several models, including the New HiLux, LandCruiser 300 and LandCruiser Prado providing owners with even greater peace of mind,” it added, without providing specific information on security enhancements – perhaps not to give…

In what may mark the tech industry’s first significant legal settlement over AI-related harm, Google and the startup Character.AI are negotiating terms with families whose teenagers died by suicide or harmed themselves after interacting with Character.AI’s chatbot companions. The parties have agreed in principle to settle; now comes the harder work of finalizing the details. These are among the first settlements in lawsuits accusing AI companies of harming users, a legal frontier that must have OpenAI and Meta watching nervously from the wings as they defend themselves against similar lawsuits. The former boss of Porsche has gone on the record to admit the company was wrong to only offer the second-generation Macan only as an electric model. Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume, formerly Porsche’s global chief, told a German newspaper it was a mistake to drop petrol engines from the new Macan lineup – but said its research suggested it was the right move at that point. “Our strategy was to offer combustion engines, hybrids, and electric sports cars in each of our three segments – but not for every product,” Mr Blume told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “We were wrong…

Apple announced today JPMorgan Chase will be the new issuer for the Apple Card. The official news arrived shortly after The Wall Street Journal reported that the two businesses had reached a deal regarding Apple’s credit card service. After leading General Catalyst’s seed strategy for years, Niko Bonatsos has departed the firm. Known for backing an IPO-hopeful Discord and the $10 billion startup Mercor, Bonatsos told TechCrunch he intends to launch a new early-stage VC firm alongside “friends.” Bonatsos is the latest investor to leave General Catalyst, a firm that recently expanded beyond the traditional venture model. Over the last few years, General Catalyst unveiled a wealth management business, a strategy focused on PE-style AI roll-ups, and a Customer Value Fund (CVF), which provides late-stage startups with nondilutive financing secured by recurring revenue. Other recent General Catalyst departures include Deep Nishar and…

Every fall, dozens of maple and oak trees in my neighborhood shed their leaves. Thus begins the constant drone of gas-powered leaf blowers every day through early December. The noise is by far the most annoying thing about these yard tools, but I can appreciate it’s a necessary evil — unless you prefer to pick up a blister-inducing rake. Whisper Aero argues there’s a better way. The company is using aerospace tech to quiet the noisy devices, introducing the T1 leaf blower at CES 2026 under its sub-brand Tone Outdoors. The company promises the T1 is 80 percent quieter and…
