Businesses and governments do a lot of heavy lifting, but it’s private buyers that account for the greatest share of new-vehicle sales in Australia. According to the 2025 VFACTS report published by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), a total of 600,580 vehicles were sold to private buyers last year, out of a total of 1,209,808 vehicles. These figures exclude Tesla and Polestar, which report their sales separately to the Electric Vehicle Council, and several other auto brands that don’t report their sales to either industry organisation. The Toyota RAV4 fell short of claiming the title of Australia’s best-selling…

The inaugural BMW iX4 has been spied on public roads for the first time ahead of its official unveiling later this year, and an expected arrival in Australia in 2027. A rival to the top-selling Tesla Model Y and Porsche Macan Electric, the all-new fastback luxury electric SUV will be the second model to be based on BMW’s make-or-break Neue Klasse electric vehicle (EV) platform, which the premium German automaker spent a claimed €10 billion (A$17bn) to develop, following the debut of the new iX3 at the Munich motor show in September 2025. While the iX3 is confirmed for Australian…

Now that the winter holidays are well and truly past, now’s the perfect time to take stock of your tech setup. If you were gifted (or gifted yourself) some new gear in December, make sure that you’ve got the proper accessories to keep that gear performing at its best. If a new way to power all those batteries would be a benefit, Amazon’s currently running a discount on an excellent wireless charging pad. The is on sale for $95. That’s only a little bit above the lowest price we’ve ever seen for the product (which was $90), and it’s still…

On the heels of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health reveal, Anthropic announced on Sunday that it’s introducing Claude for Healthcare, a set of tools for providers, payers, and patients. Like ChatGPT Health, Claude for Healthcare will allow users to sync health data from their phones, smart watches, and other platforms (both OpenAI and Anthropic have said that their models won’t use this data for training). But Anthropic’s product promises more sophistication than ChatGPT Health, which seems as though it will be more focused on a patient-side chat experience as it rolls out gradually. Though some industry professionals are concerned about the role…

Finnish electric propulsion company Donut Lab has presented what it claims is the world’s first production-ready solid-state battery, and it’s claimed to deliver nearly 600km of range from a full charge in just 10 minutes in an electric motorcycle, the first production versions of which are set to hit the road within weeks. The peak time for deals on streaming services — the holiday shopping season — has come and gone, but Disney is back with a fresh offer for the new year. New and eligible returning subscribers can get one month of the ad-supported Disney+ Hulu bundle for just $10. That’s $3 off the usual monthly rate for the bundle, and more than 58 percent off if you consider the prices for each service individually (Disney+ at $12 per month and, separately, Hulu also at $12 per month). We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that this isn’t quite as good as…

On Monday, Anthropic announced a new tool called Cowork, designed as a more accessible version of Claude Code. Built into the Claude Desktop app, the new tool lets users designate a specific folder where Claude can read or modify files, with further instructions given through the standard chat interface. The result is similar to a sandboxed instance of Claude Code, but requires far less technical savvy to set up. Currently in research preview, Cowork is only available to Max subscribers, with a waitlist available for users on other plans. The new tool is inspired in part by the growing number…

The Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa is the first Alfa Romeo from the BottegaFuoriserie customisation division shared with Maserati. Developed in conjunction with the Luna Rossa sailing team that vied for the America’s Cup in 2024, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa has a two-tone exterior with the majority of the body finished in silver, but with the roof and parts of the bonnet and boot done in “boat deck” black. The Luna Rossa has a new carbon-fibre aero package that’s said to be low drag, but also capable of developing five times more downforce — around 140kg — at 300km/h than…

If you follow Anthropic, you’re probably familiar with Claude Code. Since the fall of 2024, the company has been training its AI models to use and navigate computers like a human would, and the coding agent has been the most practical expression of that work, giving developers a way to automate rote programming tasks. Starting today, Anthropic is giving regular people a way to take advantage of those capabilities, with the release of a new preview feature called Claude Cowork. The company is billing Cowork as “a simpler way for anyone — not just developers — to work with Claude.”…

Automated investment platform Betterment has confirmed that hackers broke into some of its systems last week and accessed the personal information of an undisclosed number of its customers. In an email sent on Monday, which TechCrunch has seen, Betterment said that hackers gained access to some company systems on January 9 by way of a social engineering attack, which involved “third-party platforms” that the company uses for marketing and operations. The company said customer names, email addresses and postal addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth were compromised in the attack. With this access, hackers were able to send a…
