  • Canada reverses course, slashes tariffs on Chinese EVs

    Over the weekend, Canada and China struck a trade deal which could see Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) into the country. Under the deal, Canada will reduce the 100 per cent tariff on made-in-China EVs to 6.1 per cent for the first 49,000 units per year, a number which will rise to 70,000 cars per year by the fifth year of the deal. In return, China will slash the tariff it imposes on Canadian canola seed from 85 per cent to 15 per cent in March.     All Chery Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 crossover SUVs now have a five-star rating from independent safety authority ANCAP. The top rating had previously been applied to petrol-powered versions of the two SUVs, but ANCAP has now applied it to all petrol and plug-in hybrid Tiggo 7 variants produced from June 30, 2025.     Victoria Police officers have caught a learner driver allegedly speeding at more than 220km/h along a Melbourne freeway, accompanied by a supervisor who had been disqualified from driving. The L-plater’s Audi TT was stopped by Nunawading Highway Patrol after it was allegedly travelling at 226km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Monash Freeway at around 3am this morning.
